Solange - Pepsi Smash Yahoo Performances + Pictures!

Solange performed "T.O.N.Y" and "Viva La Vida Loca" from Cold Play, for Pepsi Smash on Yahoo this week. It's nice to see Solange challenge herself with covers of other artists, however it seems that a song like "T.O.N.Y" does fit her better than the cover she made for Cold Play. Watch and judge for yourselves.

A few nights ago, French band M83 performed "Kim and Jessie" from their critically acclaimed 2008 album Saturdays=Youth on Connan O'Brien. At first it seemed like this might be a lame band, however after pre-judging the performance, it turns out that M83 is an amazing band with sound remiscent of the 80s. The 80s had some amazing sounds, thus it's wonderful to find them throughout the songs of M83.

David Cook - First Tour Announced!

David Cook's first tour "The Declaration Tour 2009", has been scheduled in support of his self-titled album.

Here's what David had to say on the upcoming tour:

"I’m more than excited to hop on the road and support this record. This tour represents both a new beginning and a return to form for me," David says. "It’s our first full tour, and we’re all ready to pour whatever blood, sweat, and tears that we can muster into making this show, and every show from here on out, an experience. Part of that experience is bringing back this college tour idea. There’s something inherently nostalgic about playing college shows. So many amazing acts used to do it, so it’s nice to be able to bring that ideal back, in some small way. And besides, touring on a bus beats what we used to do, which was cram five guys into a seven passenger van for one show, 13 hours away…"

Ryan Leslie - "How It Was Supposed To Be" Video 2

Video 2 of 3 for Ryan Leslie's "How It Was Supposed To Be" (Military Version)
Starring & Co-Directed by Tyson Beckford

Says Ryan:

"So much to write about this video. First, I had a concept that I shared with Shiv and the two of us fine tuned it into a treatment. I shopped it to some directors and when they told me how much they expected it to cost ($200K), I decided to direct it myself to give my staff an incredible learning experience. Two weeks into the planning and production process, I ran into Tyson Beckford at the G-star fashion show and invited him to direct the video with me. I could write a book about the production of this video - scripting, rehearsal, styling, filming, editing, sound design, color-correction…"

AllHipHop.com

"Absolute classic!! The movie made you feel just like you were part of his legacy!! Great job of recreating the times...it sent chills thru my body" - Jadakiss

"I can't believe we finally have a movie about one of the most talented, charismatic, and creative people of our generation. B.I.G was a leader, our voice, God don't make 'em like that no more! He will never be replaced, I miss him a lot. He pushed music to the future! Now I can see him on the Screen bigger than life and just smile!" - Nas

"It was an amazing movie. It kept you locked from beginning to end. I woke up wanting to watch it the next day! I felt like I was able to learn more about his story and how much he impacted his fans and the music industry." - Ciara

Ryan Leslie's long awaited and highly anticipated debut album will be released on February 10th, 2009.

Also don't miss the first of 3 videos for Ryan's new single "The Way It Was Supposed To Be"

Says Ryan:

"How It Was Supposed To Be" is one of the most personal songs on my album and for my live performances, I arranged this guitar driven version to capture the angst and confusion that I was going through when I recorded it. The response was so crazy at my show in Chicago that we played the song twice in a row to an engaged, enthusiastic audience.

Based on this reaction, I decided to record this version and have Guillaume Doubet visually interpret it. Here is the gritty result with Brent Paschke on guitar, Eric Coomes on bass, and Brad Colton on drums."

Kanye West Covers Vibe Magazine

Kanye West makes his first solo VIBE cover appearance for the February 2009 issue.

Kanye on being deemed a violent person because of his paparazzi experience:

“I haven’t done anything violent. They make it seem like I actually went and hit the paparazzi. I haven’t. I was restrained. I’m good at restraining myself from committing violent acts. I know how to control my temper. That one paparazzo made it a bigger deal. I just put my hand up and he felt like he had more right to my personal space than I did. I put my hand up to stop him from shooting me.”

Kanye on putting out 808’s & Heartbreak so quickly:

“I could have put it out as a mixtape. I always wanted to do a mixtape called T-Pain Style. And I was like, if these songs are good as hell, why not put it out as a real album? And who’s to say what a mixtape , what’s an album. I aint have to drop an album either. What I do at this point is a gift. And I think people are complaining about their gift. They can either play with it or not! But don’t complain to me about the gift. There’s guys out there, nobody spoke on our behalf before. Whatever about the singing. F*ck all the singing, f*ck all the Auto-Tune, f*ck the He’s A Rapper, he’s not a rapper, he’s going through something, he has to get this out of his system, he’s crazy. F*ck all that. It’s men out there who have never had anyone to speak on their behalf about the way they feel in a relationship. We don’t feel like, ‘F*ck you, bitch, I’m going to f*ck a whole bunch of girls’. NO! We feel hurt. We feel pain. Like, ‘Damn, why would you say something like that to me? Damn, I LOVE YOU. Damn, I want to have a family. Damn, I want to find someone to raise my kids. Damn, my baby mama’s a bitch. Or she’s not a bitch’. That more than anything-more than the way I wanted to deliver this art-is the message behind 808’s.”
